Dois Irmãos Natural Park

Hi everybody! This is Teacher Ale and today I write to you in a much more personal format to tell you about an amazing and free tour I took with my family in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The Two Brother Hill separates Leblon and Gávea neighborhoods from the Vidigal and Rocinha slums (also known as 'favelas'), and the easiest way to get to the park is by car - we went from Uber and it was around R$ there and back - but if you intend to go By public transport, line 553 – INT8 Rio Sul x Recreio dos Bandeirantes is the closest to the site for a walk of approximately 20 minutes to the park entrance.

The park was created by the city of Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and has an area of 39 hectares overlooking the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Jardim Botânico, Corcovado and the shores of Leblon, Ipanema and Arpoador. And, in addition to the viewpoint with one of the most beautiful views of the wonderful city, the park also offers leisure options with a sports court, recreation areas, and a trail, subject to some rules following the Environmental Crimes Law.

Arriving at the park entrance, we could already see the cliff lookout facing Leblon and, despite having seen photos and videos of the place, we were amazed by the view!

In the middle of the lookout there is a memorial in respect of the 228 men, women and children who disappeared on 01/06/2009 in the accident of flight AF 447.

We arrived at the park around 2 pm and took many pictures - sometimes under the strong sun, sometimes in the shadows that appeared around the place - both at the lookout near the park entrance and on the staircase amidst the green of the hill that gives access to a second cliff point overlooking the waterfront.

The lookout is very well preserved and the cleanliness of the places is impeccable. Also for this reason, I found interesting the work done by a local artist extolling the street swiper woman - side by side with the wonder woman and the super powerful girls - as a way of recognizing one of the fundamental works for the Rio society that lives off tourism and local commerce . Especially as it is located so close to the Vidigal and Rocinha slums where the city's drug trafficking war is raging, this tribute has immense significance.

Going down the stairs and passing through the courtyard, there is a second lookout even closer to the sea where we spent time and took a few more pictures before returning.

May this post help them prepare, plan and have fun walking around the city of Rio de Janeiro! We will have more posts like this in a very near future. For now I here leave a special thanks to my brother, my sister-in-law and Davi - the Uber driver who helped us getting home safe and introduced us to John Petrucci's Damage Control.
