English and Rock? Rock in Rio 2022



After a 2 years hiatus with the pandemic, one of the biggest festivals in the world is about to happen in Brazil in September 2022, the famous "Rock in Rio". But, do you really know everything about the festival?


Biography:


The event was created and idealized by the businessman Roberto Medina with the first edition in 1984(which symbolizes the entrance of international stars on Latin American stages). It was originally held in Rio de Janeiro and later in 2004 internationalized with Portugal, Spain and the United States.


Great artists have performed at the event: Queen, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, Sepultura, Guns N Roses, Engineers of Hawaii, Ivete Sangalo, Djavan, Foo Fighters, Cássia Eller, Nsync, System of a Down, Coldplay, Ellie Goulding, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Alice in Chains, Beyoncè, Britney Spears, phew! The list is really long.


Rock in Rio IX 2022:


For the 2022 edition, the event will take place on September 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11 and the event's lineup includes well-known artists such as Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Billy Idol, Green Day, Coldplay, and others: Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Avril Lavigne, Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Camilla Cabello, there are many, many cool bands and artists, check out the full program here! With a history that counts 20 editions, the festival is one of the largest in the world, that's right, it is among Lollapalooza, Timberland, Woodstock and others.


Learning English: for music and for your pocket:


Besides everything mentioned, Rock in Rio is a very important event for the country and for the State of Rio de Janeiro, with marks of 1.4 bi (2017) and 1.6 billion Brazilian Reais (2019) for the economy, with more than 400 thousand tourists coming from other countries and astonishment: 700 thousand viewers.


What draws attention is the data obtained from tourism statistics of the city, among the international tourists most were Colombians, along with Americans, Canadians, Germans, among other nationalities.


To really experience the emotion of being there in the " cidade maravilhosa" and to be able to sing the songs, feel the emotion in each song and its meaning, having a total experience of the event and the trip, knowing how to speak English becomes simply essential.


And when it comes to the professional aspect, in 2019 there were 25,000 jobs created by the event in 2019, according to a 2019 G1 article, among sectors of hotels, shops, gastronomy, retail, technology, among many others, having employees who speak English or Spanish - languages most used by tourists- becomes essential.


Curiosities:


The event began to always occur in the spring every two years since its fourth edition;

The Cidade do Rock stage was destroyed in 1984 after the end of the event and rebuilt in 2001, taking place at Maracanã Stadium and today taking place at Parque dos Atletas in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of the city;

The event has 8 stages, among them big stages like Palco Mundo, Palco Sunset, New Dance Order, Espaço Favela, Rock District, Highway Stage,Supernova and Rock District, besides spaces like Fuerza Bruta, Rota 85 and NAVE;

The festival went on to occur internationally in Lisbon, Madrid and Las Vegas after 2004;

In 2017 it contributed with 1.4 billion reais and 2019 1.6 billion Brazilian reals to the economy of RJ state;

The creator of the event is the businessman and publicist Roberto Medina and who directs the event in Lisbon is his daughter Roberta Medina;

The festival ranks eighth among the world's largest festivals;

Among the tourists coming from outside the state, the majority are from São Paulo in the country and Colombians among those coming from outside Brazil;

There has already been a boycott of Brazilian bands such as O Rappa, Cidade Negra, Raimundos, Jota Quest, Charlie Brown Jr, among others due to being unable to make the sound transfer due to their contracts;

The festival already has 20 editions, 2022 having the 21st with Rock in Rio IX, with the event that would take place in 2020 being canceled due to COVID-19.
